Broken laptop screen

I occasionally take my laptop to college with me in my laptop bag and it’s normally absolutely safe inside. One afternoon during winter, i slipped on the ice and landed on my laptop bag. It did not hurt me much, but it sounded like it had screwed the laptop inside. When i got inside, as i opened the laptop bag, to find out that it had cracked the screen completely. I swapped it on to see if it was still operable, but it wasn’t.
The screen definitely needed replacing, but i wasn’t certain if i’d damaged anything else inside the laptop.
When i got home, i phoned the local fix shop and asked if they could aid. They said they could, but it could take a 7 to 14 days to get the screen and then fit it, followed by a longer wait to investigate and perhaps replace anything else that was defective with the laptop. After that, they would be charging hundreds of pounds.
