No remote required

This has got to become the new neatest thing. Not so much due to what it can do to a PC, though plenty will welcome an occasional reprieve from mouse-clutching.
It’s the expectation of the things to come that makes the gesture recognition so exhilarating. Just remember how many mins – nay, even hours – of your life have been wasted in tracking down the TV remote. Then imagine a TV set that you can control with a stylish wave of the hand.
In case anybody thinks that gesture recognition has anything to do with that now historic “lights off ( or on ) at the clap of the hands” trend, think again.
The clapping of the hands didn’t have anything to do with the gesture.
It had everything to do with the sound. The concept was to progress towards making PCs, TV sets and other appliances obediently reply to the voice of their master ( us ).
The advances made in the voice recognition technology have stayed modest. After fiddling with it for a while the researchers now say that voice recognition technology is too complicated. Against this, gesture recognition stands an improved chance.
The idea is reasonably straightforward : put a camera on top of a P. C. and teach the machine the simple way to interpret the meaning of different hand signals. And no, gesture recognition system isn’t just a fascinating vision. Gesture based interfaces are already among us, and some expect to see this technology make inroads into main line shopper electronics markets by 2012.
A ground breaker in this field is Toshiba’s Qosmio G55.
This computer lets users control music and video playback, as well as PowerPoint, by trying just their hands : no mouse, remote or keyboard is needed. Many think that motion control technology has lots of potential in gaming.
Folk who can never find the remote are way more inquisitive about having the advanced technology applied to the TV tuner. They can anticipate hours of family fun as everybody makes an attempt to out-wave each other in front of the TV set.
Among all the positive reply, there are some in contrast voices from folks who believe that the entire thing smacks too much of exercising
